Tips on Questions to Ask When Pricing New Zealand Car Rentals

• Does using your credit card give you a discount?

• Do you have reciprocal access to discounts and use of our AA-Automobile Association?

• What does the insurance cover?

• Does the rental price cover unlimited kilometers?

• Can you drive your rental car one way?

• If you have a second driver they must also give their details to go on the rental agreement.

• Find out basic things such as where the petrol lever is, tire inflation rates, etc

• Know which petrol quality you should use for your rental car.Leaded or unleaded, 91 or 98,or deisel.

• What their policy is if you have a break down, lock keys in your car, or have an accident.

• Some New Zealand car rental companies- usually the better known international companies, do not allow their rental vehicles on the Interisland Ferry Crossing. They would give you another vehicle in Picton.

If this is the case you would find plenty of companies who will allow you to use the same vehicle in both islands.I suggest you look further and go with one of these.

New Zealand Driving Condtitions

You will need to allow for the terrain and size in your travel times.New Zealand may be small in population, but it is a long narrow country which means our travel distances are more than you might expect. Our roads are also hilly and can be windy, some are unsealed, so extra time is required to travel the same distance on a road that does not have the same difficult terrain. Further considerations are weather. Some areas are subject to wind, rain and snow which will mean slower travelling times, or closed roads in extreme conditions.

Your car rental New Zealand company will be able to inform you if any of these problems might occur.Winter, or autumn/spring would be the most likely.

NOTE

There are a few roads that are so dangerous in New Zealand rental vehicles are not allowed to be driven on them.

• Skippers Canyon

• Ball Hutt Road

•90 mile beach
